Games, slides on Mui Ne Dunes, running training and other activities were at stakes. A day of fun and 350km driven !!!
16-17 of July, Ms Ari came all the way from Saigon to teach our kids. They learned a lot of new words in a very fun way !!! Ms Ari was surprised how much the kids already know !!! Some kids will be learning English at The Happy Kings every week in the hope they can communicate in English very soon.
Ha, Cung, Phuoc, My, Ngan, Duy, Vinh, Vi, Ai, Muoi, and Duyen enjoyed the whole weekend at Chris' house. Saturday morning, coach Alex surprised the kids with a special training at Ho Da. The training ended with a football match, proudly won by the coaches !! The night was a gateway trip in the city where they attended the Champions League at Football ARENA to support Chris. Sunday was a tough training day for Phuoc , Cung and Duy in Binh Duong New City. They woke up at 3:30 am and ran 10km with BDRC Team. The afternoon was full of resting, games and cooking.
Cung, Phuoc, Duyen, Vi, and Ha left Que Huong Charity Center on Wednesday 1/07/2020. A 16 hours trip awaited our champions for their longest trip on their life. Ha got car sick as expected but nothing serious. Thursday morning around 8:00 am, the kids were relieved to get out of that bus, event though they like they liked watching the screen. We spend the whole day and next day in Quang Ngai Province, in the hometown of Ms Nhu (our volunteer) where her parents welcomed us. It was 2 days of training, swimming and playing along the beautiful beach and outstanding landscape. Thursday around 2:00 pm we finally got on the boat to reach our final destination, Ly Son Island !!! It was their first time of a boat and we got the change to be in front of it to feel the sea air crumbling our faces. Feet set up on the island, we trained a last time, visited the iconic places of the island and off to bed early !!!
The race started at 6:45 am, the kids look excited but also nervous as it is going to be their first 10km !!! Our coach Alex Videau also came to compete. The route was not flat at all and the starting time was very late, so it was super hot. Anyway, it does not prevent us to finish and fight until the end, we gave everything we had and got awarded with a nice feeling of accomplishment, WE DID IT !! Results: - Alex Videau (Coach), Overall 21st, Amateur 1st, Time 36'05 - Chris Devoize (Founder), Overall 68th, Amateur 5th, Time 41'42 - Huynh Tieu Phuoc, Amateur 13th, Time 52'53 - Huynh Tieu Cung, Overall 94th, Time 1h19'28 - Huynh Tieu Ha, Overall 168th, Time 1h25'15 - Huynh Tieu Duyen, Overall 204th, Time 1h35'26
Today is Monday 05/07/2020 and we are safely back to Saigon !!! Back to school for the kids and back to work for our team !!!
Next race for our champions will be Quy Nhon Marathon on 26/07/2020, 10 kids will be chosen for that race.
No kids join this event due to the difficulty. However our coach Chris proudly wore the color of Elite Orphans Running Club. Chris signed up for the 45 km and finished 6th in 5h52. Five runners were faster than Chris that day but it was a really tough effort. A though to the father, husband and runner who lost his life while running the 70km. It is always a tragic moment when our running brothers and sisters pass away while doing what they like. Prayers go to the widowed family, R.I.P.
The know how to run but they also know how to play football !!! Our older kids, Duy, Phi, Cung, Vy and Nam challenged a nice team from Green Bamboo orphanage. The first match was a formality, 6-2 for our boys while the second match was tougher 2-2. A nice Sunday morning to spend in D2. Thank you Miss Linh for inviting us, we will come back !!
As crazy as it sounds, Duyen turned out 12 years old. Muoi, Ha, Ai, Anh, Vy, My and Oanh enjoyed Duyen's birthday at Villa Jasmine. Swimming pool, jumping area, games, slim and many activities were organised to celebrate that special day !!
12 elite orphans joined the mythique race called The Last Standing (Wo)Man. The rules are simple, runners must run a loop of 3km under 20 minutes to run the next loop etc etc ... The race stops when there is only one runner left !!
All our girls, Oanh, Giao, Duyen, Muoi and Ngan completed one loop. Only Ha succeeded to run 2 loops !!!
Our boys were a bit more courageous. While Cung, Vinh, Vy, Giap and Nam completed 2 loops. Anh PHUOC run 7 LOOPS !!!! 21 km for this young boy of 14 years old in 2h20:00 as runners must wait 20 minutes before starting running again. Incredible performance that deserves RESPECT!!
